Building a Flap Lever Friction Brake

In the real 737 the flap position control lever is connected to components which have resistance to there movement. In the simulator the lever connects to a simple electrical sensor. This sensor provides very little resistance to the movement of the flap position lever. The image below shows the test fitting of the Flap Lever Friction Brake, in the position of the original flap lever cable pulley's. The goal was to provide the correct flap lever resistance, add no new holes in the throttle quadrant, and to mount the unit using the existing pulley mounting holes.

Parts which make up the Flap Lever Friction Brake

Since this is a brake the shaft connects the PolyClutch to the mounting bracket.

Chain drive sprocket added to the brake assembly

Position shims added to the brake assembly

Brake asssembly mounted in the mounting bracket

Nutplate mounting plate aligned with mounting holes.

Chain to cable interface mounted on the drive sprocket

The finished unit
